Principles of a Networked Society

Mocana’s products and services are designed to support today’s rapidly-evolving Networked Society.

In this new world, networks, devices, services -- even people – are completely interconnected and interdependent.

Whether it is a global network serving society at-large or a network of devices and services interacting without human intervention, Mocana believes the necessary underpinnings are same: optimized performance and security.

The following three principles underscore Mocana’s philosophy

1. The network is the foundation for all business and social interaction.

With networks, devices, services, and people becoming completely interconnected, the lines between them will continue to blur. Whether for interpersonal communication, financial transactions, entertainment or other use, the network will be the foundation upon which all business and social interaction will take place.

Internet protocol (IP) is the key enabler for The Networked Society, allowing 24/7 access to the network anywhere and from any device, where a device is everything that contains a chip. As a result the demand will grow for near-zero latency security in all forms of network communications (voice, video and data) as the information exchanged via the network increases in both volume and value.

To support this, Mocana will continue to focus on developing security solutions that are high performance, low-latency and ideally suited for use with wireless and wireline voice, video and data devices, services and networks.

2. Security is paramount, expected and must be transparent.

Every network, device and service must be inherently secure. Devices and individuals on the network will have unique identities and in many instances unique purposes, with the ability to operate autonomously or in cooperation with others. Like human society, devices must be good network citizens, complying with the rules of engagement for the environment in which they live.

To support this, Mocana will continue to develop portable security solutions that can span the full spectrum of use scenarios: from devices with no operating system such as chips… to applications that demand low-latency such as voice and video… to networks that must scale to unprecedented levels, such as next-generation wireless networks.

3. Devices must be enabled to be evolve intelligently.

To deliver the full potential of the Networked Society, applications and services must be able to be delivered to devices securely and without requiring human intervention. This secure and transparent delivery will allow the devices to evolve uniquely to provide new capabilities that better meet the needs of their individual users. It will also allow devices to live longer and more useful lives.

To enable this, Mocana will continue to develop security solutions that are easy to use ensuring that no knowledge of security is required on the part of either developers or end-users.
