Syn-Tech Systems, Inc., a dynamic defense and commercial engineering design and manufacturing firm specializing in materials handling, munitions support and automated fuel management systems, today announced a partnership with Mocana to secure fueling systems and associated ruggedized handhelds for the Department of Defense. Syn-Tech is using Mocana’s NanoCrypto™ device integrity software to encrypt RF communications between the mobile handheld devices and the data collection system mounted in fueling vehicles in the Syn-Tech Fuelmaster® Automated Point of Sale Device and Commercial Automated Data Capture systems. The announcement is timely, given the recent revelations in the Wall Street Journal of Iraqi and Afghan insurgents' repeated interceptions of unencrypted satellite downlinks from the military's fleet of Predator unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs. Military and commercial contractors alike are on notice to encrypt all sensitive dataflows, especially those as logistically strategic as fuel consumption and distribution statistics which could be used by enemies to predict troop movements and deployment strength.
